meet our new friends

We have recently begun working with Wheelchair Steve, he’s been a friend of onebestway’s for a while now as the founder of findingways, a website that lets you rate businesses for accessibility.

As well as that Steve does a quite a bit of motivational speaking at events, sometimes these will be about accessibility but most of the time it is about him and his experiences.

So what have we done for him?
Well we have created the initial identity and a holding page for his website. The identity is an animated masterpiece that was inspired by Steve’s personality as he is a bit of a dare devil. But it goes deeper than that as disabilities shouldn’t be a barrier for anyone and you can do anything you want, going to a restaurant or being shot out of a canon. Great eh?

Watch him abseil off the Tyne Bridge or have a look at his holding page that has the ‘shot out of a canon’ animation we created for him.

more awards for onebestway and angelfysh

Last week a few of the onebestway team headed down to Manchester for the fresh digital awards.

We were nominated for Freshest Digital Design Operation in the UK 2007/8, Mark R was nominated for Freshest Young Digital Professional 2007/8 and our best friend’s angelfysh were nominated for Freshest website hosting 2007/8.

We placed in the top three for Freshest Digital design operation and angelfysh won Freshest website hosting! (Congratulations Lisa).

Reports back from Manchester were that it was a great night and everyone had a good time.

Congratulations to everyone that was nominated as this is pretty big achievement and good luck for next year!

10 Things you didn't know about Christmas

A bit of a change from our usual “10 things”. This month we shine a light on CHRISTMAS.

1. A traditional Christmas dinner in early England was the head of a pig prepared with mustard. Save me a bit of snout.
2. After "A Christmas Carol," Charles Dickens wrote several other Christmas stories but none was as successful as the original.
3. An artificial spider and web are often included in the decorations on Ukrainian Christmas trees. A spider web found on Christmas morning is believed to bring good luck.
4. Before settling on the name of Tiny Tim for his character in "A Christmas Carol,"Charles Dickens considered three other names; Little Larry, Puny Pete, and Small Sam.
5. Christmas carolling began as an old English custom called Wassailing - toasting neighbours to a long and healthy life.
6. Christmas trees are edible! The needles contain loads of Vitamin C. I suppose it beats brussels sprouts.
7. For every real Christmas tree harvested, 2 to 3 seedlings are planted in its place.
8. In 1647, English parliament passed a law that made Christmas illegal. Festivities were banned by Oliver Cromwell.
9. The Holy Days and Fasting Days Act of 1551 states that every citizen must attend a Church service on Christmas Day.
10. Queen Elizabeth's Christmas message to the nation was first televised on December 25, 1957.
