We’ve just launched an album! And I’m not the one singing you’ll be glad to hear.
Mamacoca - a local band on it’s way up - recently asked us to develop the look for their debut album and promotional material for it’s launch. They’d spent hours in the studio developing, writing and putting together their tracks and invested huge amounts of emotional energy in it, so developing something that delivered for them on both a business and personal level was quite a challenge.
After late nights listening to the demo version and scribbling ideas we developed many ideas for the cover, each of us ‘seeing’ different things in the music and lyrics.
After an initial presentation the band chose the route they felt right for the music and we cracked on with rolling it out onto the full CD cover (with Spot UV varnish) and CD, the press pack, a mini website (www.mamacoca.co.uk), posters, flyers and livery for the tour truck!
Seeing the CD on the launch night in the Pitcher and Piano reminded me that design is about so much more than sitting in our studio, creating.
It’s about the moment that someone comes in contact with what we’ve designed. It’s at that moment that you know why you spend so much time on the details, the spelling, the kerning, the way the light will pick up the varnish, these are the things that lift our work up to be pieces that people love, not just like.
F’reez and the rest of the guys in the band we’re over the moon with the work, and if we’re lucky, they’ll find us so indespensible that we’ll have to go and support them in Kefalonia next month...I’ll carry the bags!
